Why Fall Isn’t About “Peel Season” Anymore

Here in Temecula, fall doesn’t always mean sweater weather , sometimes it’s still 90 degrees outside! But traditionally in skincare, fall has always been known as “peel season.”
Years ago, when I first started as an esthetician in San Diego, this time of year was all about chemical peels. Clients would line up to “shed” summer sun damage and start fresh. Back then, I thought this was the best way to renew the skin.

But over the years, my philosophy has changed. Today, I don’t believe in breaking the skin down. I believe in building it up.
This approach is called corneotherapy and it’s all about preserving the integrity of your skin barrier.
🌿 Why Corneotherapy Matters
Barrier Integrity: The stratum corneum (your outermost skin layer) is essential for protecting your skin’s health and should be preserved, not peeled away.
Inflammation + Damage: Aggressive treatments like frequent chemical peels can cause micro-injuries, trigger inflammation, and leave your skin more sensitive.
Sustainability: Instead of chasing quick results, corneotherapy focuses on building long-term resilience so your skin ages gracefully.
🌿 The Corneotherapeutic Approach
Gentle Exfoliation: When exfoliation is needed, I use enzyme-based methods that encourage natural cell turnover without damage.
Nurturing Ingredients: I choose whole-plant, skin-compatible products that avoid harsh chemicals, dyes, and fragrances.
Focus on Protection: Every treatment supports your skin’s own ability to hydrate, repair, and stay strong.
So while I’ll always love the cozy feeling of fall , warm diffused oils in the studio, a warm and snuggly facial bed, antioxidant-rich masks , I no longer think of this season as a time to “strip” the skin.
Instead, it’s the season to restore, repair, and strengthen. 🍁
